(GREEN BAY ATHLETICS) MADISON, Wis. –It was a tough day for the Green Bay softball team, as the Phoenix fell to in-state foe Wisconsin on the road, 8-0 in game one and 14-2 in game two.
GAME 1 | Wisconsin 8, Green Bay 0
Wisconsin set the tone early in game one, scoring four runs, three coming with two outs. Phoenix starter Genesis Eggart held the Badgers to their 4-0 lead until the fifth inning, when they tacked on three more runs to put the game out of reach at 7-0. Wisconsin scored one more run in the bottom of the sixth to force the run rule.
Wisconsin’s Gabi Salo and Shelby Jacobson combined to throw a shutout.
Green Bay had two hits in the contest, with Kendal Herschbach and Jenna Redders registering hits.

GAME 2 | Wisconsin 14, Green Bay 2
Wisconsin started game two similarly, jumping ahead in the first inning with a pair of runs off of Phoenix starter Paeton Kringel. However, GB responded and tied the game up in the top of the second inning. With the bases loaded, Herschbach singled home Grace Kahr and Bella Herman.
That tie would not last long, however, with Wisconsin exploding for eight runs in the second, and four more in the third to take a commanding 14-2 lead. Neither offense scored after that, as the game ended after five innings.
In the batter’s box, the Phoenix were again paced by Herschbach, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI. Senior Bella Herman put together a noteworthy performance at the dish as well, going 2-for-2.

COMING UP
Green Bay will embark on an all-important series at Purdue Fort Wayne on Friday and Saturday. To qualify for the Horizon League Championships, the Phoenix must finish in the top six of the regular season standings. GB is currently a game ahead of Detroit Mercy and Oakland.
