GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A popular summer program that shows local youth what it’s like to be a police officer is returning for its 25th year.
Applications are now being accepted for the Teen Police Academy, hosted annually by the Green Bay Police Department and Brown County Sheriff’s Office.
It offers a behind-the-scenes look at demonstrations from specialty units like the dive, K9 and Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) teams. Participants can also test their skills at crime scene processing and tour the Green Bay Police Department, Brown County Sheriff’s Office and Brown County Jail.
Teen Police Academy is open to any Brown County students who are currently in grades 9-12. Class size is limited to 30 students, so registrants are asked to commit to attending.
The course will run June 9-12 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day at the GBPD. Lunch will be provided.
A criminal background check will be run on each applicant and anyone with a felony arrest record will not be eligible to attend. Participants under the age of 18 will require the signature of a parent or guardian.
