(LAWRENCE ATHLETICS) APPLETON, Wis. — The Lawrence University baseball team saw its season come to an end Saturday with a 7-0 loss to Beloit College in the Midwest Conference Tournament at Don Hawkins Field.
The Vikings finished the season with a 21-19 record after claiming the conference’s regular-season title.
Lawrence was limited to three hits by two Beloit pitchers. Erick Tiegs made the start and worked six innings, allowing two hits, and Colin Lasher allowed just one hit over the final three innings to get the save.
Edan Perez, CJ Filipek and William Zatkowski were the only Vikings to collect hits on the day.
Beloit (27-14) took the lead with a run in the second, added three more in the in the fourth and two in the fifth to pull away.
Malachi Ross suffered his first loss of the season for Lawrence. He allowed six runs on five hits over five innings.
Beloit advances to play Monmouth College in the tournament championship game on Saturday afternoon during which the Buccaneers erupted for 16 runs on 16 hits to overpower Monmouth College, 16-4. A six-run second inning gave the Buccaneers early momentum, and they kept the pressure on by scoring in five different frames.
Beloit and Monmouth met again in the second championship game, with the Buccaneers completing their title run with an 11-4 victory and advancing them to the NCAA Division III baseball tournament.
