TOWN OF GROVER, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A death investigation is underway in Marinette County.
Sheriff Randy Miller says the incident occurred around midnight Wednesday morning, when a deputy initiated a traffic stop near the intersection of County Road B and Poplar Ridge Lane in the town of Grover.
The deputy made contact with the occupants of the vehicle and “observed a subject in the driver’s seat who appeared to be ingesting a substance.”
The subject was taken into custody, but became unresponsive shortly thereafter. EMS and law enforcement attempted life saving measures. The subject was transported to a nearby hospital, where they were pronounced dead.
The Wisconsin Department of Justice Division of Criminal Investigation is leading the death investigation and will be assisted by a DCI crime response specialist. All involved law enforcement parties are fully cooperating.
“DCI is continuing to review evidence and determine the facts of this incident and will turn over the investigative reports to the Marinette County District Attorney’s office when the investigation concludes,” a news release states.
