HOWARD, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — The village of Howard moving forward with plans to build a new multi-family apartment complex.
Plans for the multi-phase project at the site of the former United Health Group headquarters were discussed Monday night.
Property management company T. Wall Enterprises’ plans were approved to begin phase one of the Grid-Iron District apartment complex.
“We’re excited now that we’ve got this approval to be able to move forward, get going and hopefully get some buildings in the ground,” T. Wall Enterprises president Terrence Wall said.
Wall said the first phase calls for two, four-story multi-family apartment buildings with a lower-level parking garage.
There will be a total of 102 apartment units with studio, 1-bedroom and 2-bedroom options. Wall said the style of living will be second to none.
“As a community, we are going to have a lot of amenities. There will be a club house, a pool, it’ll be something really special for Brown County,” Wall said.
Other amenities include outdoor firepits, grills, green space and community seating areas.
T. Wall bought the property for $4.5 million.
Previously, the property was home to United Health Group, which no longer needed the entire 300,000 square foot office building, which has since been turned to rubble.
The village of Howard is excited for something new.
“It’s wide, got a lot of green space, it’s going to have walking trails, it’s going to be like a community within a community, and it really is going to compliment the Howard Commons,” Howard Village President Burt McIntyre said.
McIntyre said this type of housing is needed for the area, and expects people of all ages to live there.
He hopes it’s a sign Howard is a growing community where people want to stay.
“To me, it’s a once in a lifetime project,” McIntyre said. “If they keep the quality that I think they’re going to do, I think it’s going to be an outstanding place to live.”
Construction on the project is expected to start within the next year, but this is only phase one.
The entire project is expected to have more than a dozen residential buildings, as well as retail space.
It’s unclear how much it will cost to live at the Grid-Iron District, but T-Wall Enterprises said it will be market-rate apartments.
