TOWN OF CLAYTON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A morning housefire at a home in the Town of Clayton in Winnebago County left one man dead, according to the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies and fire crews responded to the fire at 9:35 Saturday morning, and observed the roof was on fire and the home was filled with smoke.
“The fire was elevated to a working still, bringing in additional support from surrounding agencies. Upon arrival, fire crews encountered heavy fire conditions with flames visible from the roof. Firefighters immediately initiated suppression efforts and a search of the residence,” says the Town of Clayton Fire Rescue in a post to Facebook.
“Responding fire departments worked to extinguish the blaze and discovered a deceased male inside the residence,” a release from the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office says.
Officials are not releasing the man’s name at this time. The cause of the fire is still being investigated.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of those involved in this incident,” the release from Winnebago officials says.
“Our hearts are with the family, friends, and all those affected by this heartbreaking loss. We ask the community to join us in keeping them in your thoughts during this difficult time,” adds Town of Clayton Fire Rescue.
