APPLETON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Appleton is now home to some of the fastest internet speeds in the world.
TDS Telecommunications LLC celebrated the end of major construction activities on its all-fiber internet network in Appleton Tuesday.
During an event, the company designated Appleton as a “TDS Fiber-Fast Community.”
Approximately 35,000 Appleton addresses have access to TDS’ network, which features speeds up to 8 Gigabit.
Since construction began in 2020, TDS crews and contractors have buried over 400 miles of fiber-optic cable. TDS has made a total capital investment in Appleton of more than $80 million. The project is part of TDS’ transformation into a fiber-centric company, with high-speed networks under construction throughout the country.
As part of the Fiber-Fast event, TDS also made a donation to the Fox Cities Salvation Army to help the organization continue helping community members in need.
TDS continues working to expand its fiber network in other areas of Northeast Wisconsin including Grand Chute, Neenah, Kaukauna, Manitowoc, Green Bay, Fond du Lac, Kohler, Sheboygan, and Sheboygan Falls. In addition to Appleton, construction has been completed in Little Chute, Kimberly, and Combined Locks.
