MADISON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A priest from Madison who was arrested in Clintonville has been restricted from exercise of public ministry, Madison diocesan officials say.
Clintonville police say Andrew Showers, 37, was arrested Sunday night. Officers allege he traveled to Clintonville to meet a 14-year-old girl and engage in sexual activity.
No formal charges have been filed in the case. Waupaca County jail officials say Showers posted bond and was released.
The Madison diocese says it had not received any previous allegations of misconduct against Showers.
In a statement the diocese said:
Consistent with the diocese’s commitment to open and transparent communication, additional information will be shared as it becomes available, and the diocese will continue to cooperate fully with the civil authorities investigating these allegations. We ask for prayers for all those involved.
