GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A woman was convicted last week for supplying the drugs which her boyfriend fatally overdosed on.
Stacie Girling, 43, of Green Bay, was charged in January 2024 with first-degree reckless homicide-deliver drugs and possession of narcotic drugs.
Online court records show that on Oct. 20, Girling pleaded no contest to the reckless homicide charge. The possession charge was dismissed as part of the plea deal, but can be considered at sentencing.
According to the criminal complaint, police were called to a Howard residence in November 2023 for an unconscious man who was later declared dead. Girling told police she was with the victim, her boyfriend, and woke up to notice he wasn’t breathing.
An autopsy determined the 41-year-old man’s cause of death was “toxic effects of fentanyl.” He was identified only by his initials.
A witness told police Girling obtained fentanyl earlier in the day. The complaint cited phone records and surveillance video of Girling arranging and conducting a drug deal. When she was arrested, she “repeatedly made statements to the effect of, “I didn’t kill him”,” the complaint states.
Girling’s sentencing hearing is scheduled for Dec. 16.
