APPLETON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Andi Anthony was sentenced Wednesday to six years in prison for crashing a vehicle into a Grand Chute home while fleeing from police.
Anthony, 32, previously was convicted of second-degree reckless injury and use of a vehicle while using a controlled substance. Several other counts were dismissed as part of the plea deal.
Anthony was also placed on extended supervision for four years by Judge Yadira Rein. Total restitution of $73,996.53 was ordered to be paid, with a priority of $11,636 going to the people whose home was hit.
At the hearing Wednesday, Amy Adams described the ordeal she and her husband have been through since the crash into her house. She described finding needles and drug paraphernalia around her property, as well as the countless hours dealing with the damage to her home and vehicle. Adams also expressed disappointment with the plea deal, which did not include convictions for any property-related offenses.
Anthony apologized to the victims, and agreed prison is needed.
“Everyone is owed a sense of peace and security in their homes, and I took that from them. And, they’re 100% right that one of them or their family members could have been killed. I want to apologize to them,” she said.
In the 18 months she has been in prison, she has taken advantage of the classes and programming to improve herself and her skills.
“All I’m asking for is a little hope for me and my family that I’ll get to go home to them soon,” Anthony said.
Judge Rein described Anthony as “selfish” for her drug use, drug dealing, and the crash.
According to the criminal complaint, on Dec. 9, 2024, drug investigators saw Anthony and a male passenger get into a suspect car outside a Grand Chute business. The officer followed the car, and after seeing the driver improperly stop at a stop sign, the officer tried to pull the car over.
The driver sped off, at one point reaching an estimated 80 mph in a 30 mph zone on Capitol Drive. The officer turned off his lights and siren when he lost sight of the car. A few minutes later, the car crashed into the attached garage of a house in the 3100 block of W. Capitol Drive. Witnesses said the two people in the vehicle ran away from the scene.
A little more than an hour later, Anthony and the passenger were found hiding in a shed. After being taken to the hospital, the passenger told police he had suffered injuries, including a broken pelvis. At the scene of the crash, police found hypodermic needles, the overdose-reversing medication naloxone and cash that had apparently fallen out of the car.
Previously, Anthony was sentenced to 10 years in prison for supplying the drugs used in a fatal overdose in Waupaca County. The sentence issued Wednesday will be served after that sentence is complete.
