(LEARFIELD) – Milwaukee Brewers pitching stopped the St. Louis offense cold in Tuesday’s sweep of a doubleheader as the Brewers beat the Cardinals 4-3 in the opener and 10-2 in the nightcap.
Both starters, Jacob Misiorowski and Robert Glasser, went at least seven innings and earned victories.
Misiorowski allowed 3 runs on 3 hits including 2 home runs but struck out 11 to get the win and improve to 10-4.
Brewers manager Pat Murphy talked about Gasser’s start.
He said that that 7-run 7th inning helped both Gasser and reliever Craig Yoho.
Gasser allowed 2 runs on 4 hits and 1 walk over 7 2/3 innings. He struck out 4 and lowered his ERA to 4.15. Gasser has a 3.16 ERA is his last 3 starts.
Murphy said that Christian Yelich was the star in the first game and Joey Ortiz in the second game.
Yelich went 3-for-5 in the first game with a pair of RBI.
A seven-run rally in the seventh inning put the second game out of reach.
In the seventh inning, Joey Ortiz had a home run, Brice Turang had a run-scoring double, Gary Sanchez drove in 2 with a single, Jackson Chourio had a run-scoring single and Cooper Pratt had a 2-run double.
Ortiz piled up five hits on the day.
Kyle Harrison (8-1, 2.82 ERA) starts Wednesday night’s game after watching his team take the first three games of a five-game series.
Michael McGreevy who is 3-7 with a 3.12 ERA will start for St. Louis.
