Sep 10 (Field Level Media) – Athletics All-Star catcher Shea Langeliers is beginning a rehab stint Thursday night with the Triple-A Las Vegas Aviators.
Langeliers underwent right knee surgery on July 28 to repair a torn meniscus. He was injured while running the bases July 24 against the Minnesota Twins.
Langeliers smacked 23 homers in 93 games before going on the injured list. The Athletics have indicated they are hopeful Langeliers can join the squad on Tuesday for the start of a road series against the Tampa Bay Rays.
Langeliers ran the bases well two days ago before the A’s decided he would go on a rehab assignment.
Athletics manager Mark Kotsay said earlier this week that Langeliers will not do any catching the rest of the season. He will be utilized as a designated hitter or pinch hitter.
Langeliers, 28, has hit 105 homers over the past four seasons as a core member of the A’s. He drilled a career-high 31 in 2025.
The Aviators are hosting the Sacramento River Cats on Thursday in the third contest of a six-game series. Coincidentally, the River Cats share a ballpark with the Athletics in West Sacramento, Calif.
