(ST NORBERT COMMUNICATIONS) GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – St. Norbert College faced off against Calvin University for the first time on the gridiron and came away with a 49-7 setback in a non-conference game at Calvin Soccer Stadium.
Calvin took a quick lead connecting on a 68-yard touchdown pass on the game’s first play from scrimmage, but the Green Knights answered with a touchdown on their second play of the game when Fernando Rodriguez (pictured) hit Nick White on a 70-yard aerial for a 7-6 lead with just 1:12 elapsed.
Calvin would score two possessions later and intercepted St. Norbert when in Calvin territory, which the host converted into a third touchdown and an 18-7 lead. Calvin added another score late in the first period for a 25-7 advantage.
Calvin added 14 second-quarter points and 10 third-quarter points for the game’s final margin.
St. Norbert registered 195 yards of total offense compared to 678 for Calvin. Rodriguez completed 12 of 20 passes for 190 yards and one touchdown and two interceptions. Jacob McVane caught four passes for 49 yards, while White caught three passes for 88 yards.
Thomas Vaccaro led Calvin with 341 yards passing, completing 20 of 27 passes for four touchdowns and one interception. The Knights added 317 yards rushing.
Seth Evans led St. Norbert with nine tackles, while Mason Trimberger added seven. Carter Roeder posted a quarterback sack, while Aiden Gomez netted an interception.
