APPLETON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — An Appleton park is one step closer to getting a new name.
The city says it received 171 name suggestions from the community to rename Veterans Park, along the Memorial Drive bridge.
The park is getting a new name because Memorial Park on the city’s north side, became Veterans Memorial Park last year.
After removing duplicates and submissions that did not meet the renaming criteria, 68 names moved forward for review.
From there, a team with representatives from the Mayor’s Office, Parks & Recreation, and Community Development reviewed the list and narrowed it down to nine names.
They are:
- Eagle Ridge or Eagle Landing Park
- Fox River Park or Fox River Bluff Park
- Freedom Park or Freedom Point Park
- Memorial Bridge Park or Bridgeview Park
- Riverside or Riverview Park
- Samuel Appleton Park
- Heroes park
- John Bradley or Bradley Park
- Amos Story Park
The Parks and Recreation Committee will discuss the nine remaining options at its Oct. 12 meeting at 6 p.m.
