MANITOWOC, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – The Manitowoc Public School District is considering an operational funding referendum, which could go to voters in spring.
A 2023 referendum supplied additional funding through the 2027-28 school year. With its expiration on the horizon, the district is looking at another such vote for funding through the 2032-33 school year.
A draft referendum question says the monies would be used “for the operational needs of the school district, to maintain programs, curriculum, technology, and facilities” as determined by the school board.
Several options, ranging from $6-to-$10 million per year, are outlined in one document.
The Finance & Facilities Committee meets at 5 p.m. Tuesday to discuss the issue.
The decision on if to have a referendum and for how much will eventually be made by the school board.
To get on the April ballot, a decision would need to be made by January.
