Nov 4 (Reuters) – Figma is leaning on cashing in on its AI features through credits and using its first-party model to power tasks on its design software platform to bolster its margins, finance chief Praveer Melwani told Reuters on Wednesday.
The company lifted its annual revenue and operating margin forecast, encouraged by demand for its AI tools, including a design assistant called “Figma Agent”.
However, its shares slid 8% in extended trading after third-quarter gross margin came in slightly below estimates.
“We’re increasingly serving a lot of our product with our first-party model over the course of the third quarter, and we’re able to better serve customers with lower latency, higher quality and a more efficient price point,” Melwani said in an interview.
Here are more details:
* Through October, over 80% of Figma’s large paid customers were consuming AI credits on a weekly basis, boosting monetization
* The company’s move to rejig pricing to give customers more AI credits than they originally paid for was also helping drive more credit usage and retention, Melwani said
* “We’ve seen utilization rate of those add-ons increase by 40% since we re-priced it,” Melwani added
* Figma has more than doubled the share of work powered by its proprietary post-trained design model
* The company lifted its 2026 revenue outlook to between $1.497 billion and $1.499 billion, from $1.463 billion to $1.467 billion earlier
* It expects adjusted operating income of $158 million to $163 million and operating margin of 11%, compared with $125 million to $135 million and operating margin of 9% earlier
* Third-quarter revenue jumped 43% to $391.4 million, beating estimates, while gross margin of 80% was just below expectations of 81%
