MANITOWOC, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A garage caught fire Monday afternoon in Manitowoc, but the blaze was quickly contained.
Officials say the 911 call came in at 4:25 p.m. for a reported structure fire in the 500 block of North 6th Street.
The first engine from the Manitowoc Fire Rescue Department arrived on scene in just over two minutes. Crews found a fully-involved fire coming from a detached garage, with smoke and flames showing.
The initial company on scene quickly deployed a hose line and began to extinguish the fire while additional arriving companies deployed a second line to protect exposures and perform salvage an overhaul. The main fire was extinguished quickly.
No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire remains under investigation, although it appears to have originated inside the garage, investigators said. A damage estimate is not yet available.
“The Manitowoc Fire Rescue Department would like to thank those who contacted dispatch to report the fire. Neighbors helping neighbors is what makes our community great. They saw something that didn’t look right and made the call,” a news release states.
