GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Registration is now open for the next Community Academy, hosted by the Green Bay Police Department.
This annual course allows residents to immerse themselves in the world of law enforcement with unique behind-the-scenes experiences.
Throughout the eight-week interactive class, participants will learn about GBPD’s specialty divisions, including the Marine Unit, Dive Team, K9 and SWAT. They will also have the chance to meet with patrol officers, investigators, recruiting staff, 911 dispatchers and forensic specialists, as well as take part in hands-on skills training and demonstrations, such as lifting fingerprints.
The program will run from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesdays from Aug. 27 to Oct. 15, primarily at the GBPD station at 307 S. Adams Street.
The Community Academy is open to residents from Brown County and surrounding areas, although priority registration will be given to applicants from the city of Green Bay and first-time attendees.
Class size will be capped at 30 students. Registrants are asked to commit to attending each week. There is no cost to participate.

A criminal background check will be run on each applicant. Anyone with a felony conviction record will not be eligible to attend. Applicants under the age of 18 will need the signature of a parent or guardian in order to participate.
