BROWN COUNTY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Another Labor Day is history, and many people throughout Northeast Wisconsin spent the day enjoying what many consider to be the unofficially end to the summer season.
At Bay Shore County Park, just north of Green Bay, campers are on the move. Sheila and Paul Hess and their yellow lab Olivia are from Appleton.
“We have our own little space, it’s cost-effective, and being outdoors, is great. And having the opportunity to take our dog with us, is even better.”
The Brown County Parks Director says Bay Shore has been busy all season long, with most weekends being booked.
About a half an hour to the east, Crescent Beach in Algoma was a popular spot Monday for some Lake Michigan rock picking, or just walking the shoreline.
“We just always like to go somewhere on Labor Day, for one last hurrah. And we thought we’d try this place,” said Melanie Reed, White Pigeon, Michigan.
“It’s too bad it’s coming to an end, but that’s why we also decided to get out, and take a quick vacation. We figured we haven’t been to this part of Wisconsin, so that’s where we chose to go,” said Brian Reed, White Pigeon, Michigan.
Back at Bay Shore County Park, campers continue to make their way out. Paul Hess says he’s glad his family made the trip.
“It saddens, that things are changing, and summer is ending. This is like the last weekend, and we try to get in as much as we can for the weekends,” said Paul Hess, Appleton.
But the tourists aren’t totally going away. Autumn tourism is still a multi-million dollar revenue generator for the state of Wisconsin.
