(WTAQ-WLUK) — We Energies expects to restore service to Fox Valley customers affected by flooding by the end of Thursday.
The utility company says it has made good progress since Tuesday restoring natural gas service to Fox Valley homes and businesses affected by April’s historic flooding.
So far, We Energies restored service to more than 1,200 customers total in Fremont, New London and Shiocton.
Crews finished inspecting equipment and have verified that natural gas is flowing safely in the portions of its system that were in flooded areas.
More than 100 workers from across Wisconsin are in the field Thursday rebuilding flood-damaged meters, reconnecting service to homes and businesses and relighting natural gas appliances.
We Energies crews will remain in the Fox Valley through the end of this week to help restore service to customers still working to clean up flood damage.
To have natural gas service reconnected, customers need to:
- Have someone over the age of 18 who can provide access to their home or business. This allows We Energies to safely restore service and relight pilot lights.
- Have appliances exposed to floodwater inspected by a qualified HVAC contractor to verify they are safe to use. We Energies can restore service at a customer’s meter while they wait for an appliance inspection.
- We Energies crews will make multiple visits to homes and businesses to restore service to customers who are not available during the first pass today.
We Energies is aware of reports of scammers trying to trick customers into paying to have service reconnected. We Energies is not charging any fee to reconnect natural gas service.
Customers who receive a call demanding payment to be reconnected should hang up and call We Energies at 800-242-9137.
