MARINETTE, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — OSHA issued a $16,550 fine to Tyco Fire Products for a safety violation related to the October death of a worker.
At the time, the Marinette County medical examiner said it was “investigating an industrial death at Johnson Controls.”
According to OSHA’s website, one “serious” violation was found during an investigation. It offered this description of the incident:
The in-plant handling, storage and utilization of all compressed gases in cylinders, portable tanks, rail tankcars or motor vehicle cargo tanks were not in accordance with Compressed Gas Association Pamphlet P-1-1965, which is incorporated by reference as specified in CFR 1910.6: On or about October 13, 2025 at the worksite located in Building 112 at 2700 Industrial Parkway South, Marinette, Wisconsin; employees were exposed to struck-by hazards while devalving compressed gas cylinders. Employees were removing the valves of a LVS-55 and LVS-23 compressed gas Nitrogen cylinders by using a pipe and crescent wrench on the cylinders to remove the Liquid Vehicle Suppression System valve that had dangerous and/or unknown pressures contained in the cylinders in violation of Compressed Gas Association Pamphlet P-1-1965, paragraph 3.4.9.
