MENASHA, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Attic Theatre, Inc is making its return to the stage at the Communication Arts Center in Menasha.
The group left the space following its 2024 season after UW-Oshkosh closed the Fox Cities branch campus last year.
“We are thrilled,” said Melody Buchinger, president of Attic Theatre. “We can’t even tell you how happy we are. Our next play starts soon and we are dancing with joy to get back in there.”
During its 2025 season, Attic Theatre took to the road, performing in bars, school theaters and anywhere else they could get in.
“It was definitely chaotic. We went from place to place to find stuff, but we put on our plays and we did what we wanted to do. It was just not easy,” Buchinger said.
Attic Theatre is now raising the CAC curtain once again with Decision Height, a play about the female Air Force pilots in World War II. Tickets are selling fast; the first show, scheduled for Thursday night, has already sold out.
“I didn’t even believe it. I was like, ‘I don’t think so. Oh yes, we did!'” Buchinger said.
Winnebago County partnered with Wisconsin Entertainment Group to reopen facilities on the closed UWO-Fox Cities campus.
“Everybody has been really supportive. There’s been a lot of community groups that have went to the county and the board and expressed that they wanted to ensure that this was here for creative people to be creative,” said Jason Helling with Wisconsin Entertainment Group.
Multiple groups are looking to make use of the newly-reopened space. A ballerina team, community bands and a magician act are well on their way to taking the stage.
And as for Attic Theatre’s first performance back in the space?
“It’s going to be just wild. It’s really going to be a great play and a great return to Attic,” Buchinger said.
Shows run June 18-20 and 24-26 at 7 p.m. and June 27 at 2 p.m. Tickets are $25 apiece.
