STURGEON BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources will be allowed to continue paving roads inside Potawatomi State Park, while a lawsuit seeking to stop the work continues, court records show.
Potawatomi Advocates for Trees, Conservation and Heritage filed suit, seeking a court order “to stop the agency from causing further irreversible damage” at the park. It claimed that trees being cleared and roadways being widened was work not approved according to state law, and should be halted.
Assistant Attorney General Gabe Johnson-Karp said the tree clearing work has been completed, but asked for the pavement work to continue.
Door County Judge Jennifer Moeller said she “would sign an injunction for no tree clearing,” court records state.
Additional arguments are planned, with the court scheduling a July 14 hearing.
