DE PERE, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — De Pere High School experienced flooding inside the building following Wednesday’s rain.
Heavy rainfall blanketed most of northeast Wisconsin Wednesday, bringing high waters and downing power lines across the area.
Some of the worst of that flooding was in De Pere, near the high school on Chicago Street.
District officials say they are in the process of assessing the extent of the damage inside.
We are in the process of assessing the full extent of the damage. Local restoration companies and district staff have been working since late afternoon yesterday to prevent further damage from the water that came into the building, and to begin cleanup in the areas that flooded. It will likely be more than a week before we have an accurate estimate of the financial impact.
At this time we are not looking for community help in order to allow the restoration companies and our buildings and grounds staff the time and space to do their work. Some areas of the building are open (office, gym, weightroom, auditorium) and accessible for previously scheduled activities but the rest of the building is closed until further notice.
We’re asking our community– families, staff, students– to avoid the building and site unless absolutely necessary, until further notice. The majority of our summer school programming ended in late June, so there is no impact to those classes and students.
That’s all the information I have available right now. We will provide updates as details develop.
