Lt. Governor Sara Rodriguez (Sara Rodriguez for Governor)
MADISON, WI (WTAQ) — Wisconsin Lt. Governor Sara Rodriguez will not be the next Governor of Wisconsin.
Rodriguez, once considered a favorite for the nomination, made the announcement online Friday that she’s suspending her campaign after reporters that a former campaign manager mismanaged campaign funds, leading to the campaign appearing to have far more money than it actually did.
Today I’m suspending my campaign. Thank you to everyone who believed and showed up for this campaign. Let’s keep fighting – together – to protect the Wisconsin we love. pic.twitter.com/177LrrLD56

“As we have continued to dig into our financial reports, it has become clear that there are issues that would be an ongoing distraction — not just for this campaign, but for the primary and for Wisconsin. This race is too important to Wisconsin to let that happen,” Rodriguez said in a statement Friday.
The announcement came days after Rodriguez fired her campaign manager when she discovered her campaign had hundreds of thousands dollars less cash than she thought. The discrepancy was discovered when a million-dollar slate of campaign ads scheduled to run last week did not air on radio and TV stations across the state due to unpaid invoices.
Rodriguez said contributions had been double counted and expenses were undercounted, leading to her campaign having far less money than she thought.
