GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A suspect was shot by a Green Bay police officer during an active critical incident Friday afternoon, police say.
Officers were called for a welfare check around 3:09 p.m. in the 1700 block of Boland Road. That’s near the intersection with Steven St. in the neighborhood by Fleet Farm.
During their investigation, police say the suspect brandished a firearm, leading to the officer to fire their weapon.
Police say there is no active threat to the public. That section of Boland Road is expected to remain closed for several hours, and people are asked to avoid the area.
During a short news conference, Green Bay Police Chief Chris Davis would not give an update about the suspect’s condition. There are no reports of any injuries to officers.
The state Division of Criminal Investigation is investigating, which is standard protocol. The officer who fired their gun is also on leave, which is also standard protocol.
