CHIPPEWA FALLS, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – The teen charged with sexually assaulting and killing a 10-year-old girl in Chippewa County was sentenced to life in prison.
Carson Peters-Berger, now 18, pled guilty to first-degree intentional homicide Wednesday.
Judge Steven Gibbs accepted the plea and convicted Peters-Berger. He’s eligible for parole after 25 years.
Peters-Berger was charged in adult court for the April 24, 2022 killing of Iliana “Lily” Peters.
Peters-Berger, who was 14 at the time, persuaded Peters to leave a walking trail and explore the surrounding woods as she was riding her bike home from her aunt’s house in Chippewa Falls. Searchers found her body the next morning. Prosecutors say Peters-Berger knew Peters and planned the attack.
In 2024, Governor Tony Evers signed the bipartisan “Prince Act,” a bill that was inspired by Peters’ death. At the time of her disappearance, an AMBER Alert was not sent out as her case did not meet the criteria. The Prince Act creates Missing Child Alerts that are sent through the Wisconsin Crime Alert Network, Wireless Emergency Alert (WEA), the Wisconsin Lottery terminals throughout Wisconsin, along with the Department of Transportation Dynamic Messaging Boards. They are also sent to mobile devices up to a five-mile radius from the last known location, between the hours of 8 a.m. – 9 p.m.
