Sep 11 (Field Level Media) – Defenseman John Klingberg announced his retirement on Friday after 700 NHL games with six teams.
The 34-year-old Swede played his first eight seasons (2014-22) with the Dallas Stars, earning an All-Rookie nod in 2014-15 and making the All-Star team in 2017-18.
He recorded 27 points (10 goals, 17 assists) in 56 games last season with the San Jose Sharks.
Klingberg collected 443 points (92 goals, 351 assists) with the Stars, Anaheim Ducks, Minnesota Wild, Toronto Maple Leafs, Edmonton Oilers and Sharks. Dallas drafted him in the fifth round in 2010.
He added 43 points (nine goals, 34 assists) in 82 playoff games. He lost in the Stanley Cup Final with Dallas against the Tampa Bay Lightning in six games in 2020, and with Edmonton against the Florida Panthers in six games in 2025.
Klingberg helped Sweden win world championship gold medals in 2017 and 2018.
