GREEN BAY (WTAQ-WLUK) — Green Bay police are investigating after an officer fired a gun early Saturday morning during a downtown disturbance involving a vehicle that drove into a crowd.
Police say officers were called to Doty and Washington streets shortly after 2:15 a.m. for a disturbance at a food truck. During the investigation, a vehicle drove toward bystanders and officers, prompting an officer to fire a weapon. No injuries from the gunfire have been reported.
The vehicle fled, leading to a brief pursuit before additional officers stopped it near North Monroe Avenue and Pine Street using a pursuit intervention technique. The driver was taken into custody on suspicion of operating while intoxicated, with help from the Wisconsin State Patrol. Four officers reported non-life-threatening injuries from the two separate incidents and received medical treatment. The officers were wearing body cameras, and that footage will be reviewed. The Brown County Sheriff’s Office will assist with the officer-involved shooting investigation, and the officer who fired the weapon will be placed on administrative leave.
The Saturday Farmers Market in downtown Green Bay has been canceled because of the ongoing investigation.
