MADISON, Wis. — The No. 14 Wisconsin women’s soccer (6-1-2, 2-0-1 Big Ten) earned its second-straight conference victory with a 2-0 win over Indiana (4-4-1, 1-2-0 Big Ten) on Sunday afternoon at McClimon Soccer Complex.
How it happened
The Badgers struck almost immediately after kickoff. Just 33 seconds into the match, Izy Traub found KK Panella, who shot into the top-left corner to give Wisconsin a 1-0 advantage. The goal marked Panella’s first of the season.
This was the fastest opening goal for the Badgers since Micaela Powers scored 22 seconds into the 2016 match against Michigan State.
Wisconsin doubled its lead in the 20th minute. Hailey Baumann headed the ball and Erin Connolley was able to secure and find the bottom-left corner for her second goal in as many matches.
The Badgers carried the 2-0 advantage into halftime after out shooting Indiana 8-4 in the opening 45 minutes. Stover made two first-half saves to keep the Hoosiers off the board.
Wisconsin continued to apply pressure after the break, earning three consecutive corner kicks in the opening minutes of the second half. Jane Rogers put an attempt on frame in the 58th minute, but Indiana goalkeeper Dani Jacobson made the save.
The Badger defense kept Indiana from mounting a comeback, allowing just two shots in the second half. Stover made her third and final save in the 89th minute to preserve the clean sheet.
Wisconsin finished with a 13-6 advantage in shots, including an 8-4 edge in the first half. The Badgers also held a 9-5 advantage in corner kicks. Stover finished with three saves to secure her third-straight shutout, while Connolly led Wisconsin with three shots.
