DENMARK, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — With the simple snip of a scissors, Denmark celebrated the opening of a new community center Wednesday evening.
The space itself isn’t new. Once a school, the building has been a vital part of the Denmark community since 1921.
Located on North Wall St., the building provides dual services for the village.
The newest branch of the Brown County Library features collections for all ages — from books and magazines, to movies and video games.
There are also JobPod resources for jobseekers. People can get help with their resumes, applying for jobs, working on interview skills and more.
Brown County Executive Troy Streckenbach noted the state of Wisconsin put forth a grant to help push the project across the finish line.
“We are looking for these types of partnerships, we are 100% wanting to make sure that the community is invested just like the county,” said Streckenbach. “Oftentimes government goes and puts something there but maybe the community didn’t want it, this is a perfect example where the community wanted it.”
That’s not all, the building also houses the Community First Credit Union Community Center. The commons area features laptops, printers and charging stations. There are also meeting rooms equipped with technology.
There is a gym and fitness center, with memberships available. There are also dedicated spaces for children and teens.
There’s also space for the Denmark Community Cupboard, which serves residents in the Denmark School District.
