(ST NORBERT COMMUNICATIONS) DE PERE – Fast starts in all three sets lifted St. Norbert College to a sweep of Marian University in both teams’ Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference opener at Mulva Family Fitness & Sports Center.
The Green Knights topped the Sabres 25-16, 25-12, 25-20. St. Norbert never trailed in the match and was tied only once – at 1-1 in the first set.
St. Norbert jumped out to a 4-1 lead in the opening set and eventually built a 12-4 bulge, with Alli Clark getting four kills in that stretch. The Green Knights led by as much as 22-12 in taking a 1-0 lead. St. Norbert then ripped off a 6-0 lead to open Set 2 and had the lead eventually balloon to 19-9 en route to a 2-0 advantage.
The Green Knights then led 4-0 out of the gate in Set 3, getting ahead 10-3. The Sabres would close to within 15-12 before a 5-0 run behind a couple of Anna Kudick kills pushed it back to 20-12. Marian would get to within four points three times but St. Norbert closed out the win with a Brooklyn O’Malley kill.
St. Norbert hit .330 for the match, getting 36 kills against just three errors in 100 attempts. Clark and Kirsten Klatt (pictured, center) led the way with eight kills each, while Kudick and Annabel Stevenson had seven apiece. Keira Ashenfelter had 27 assists, while Clark had two of St. Norbert’s six service aces.
Maddie Kitowski had 11 digs to lead the back row, while Kudick had 10 and Clark and Ashenfelter with nine apiece. Klatt had five blocks, including three solos.
Marian hit .067, with 34 kills against 26 errors in 120 attempts. Khloe Walling had a match-high 10 kills to lead the Sabres.
