For the first time in franchise history, the Milwaukee Brewers have 100 regular season wins after beating the Philadelphia Phillies 5-1 in Philadelphia.
Brewers manager Pat Murphy says reaching 100 wins is a special achievement.
Murphy says it’s cool to set a franchise record for wins in a season.
Murphy says they can play even better.
Five pitchers combined to give up the lone run on four hits as Milwaukee remains the best team in baseball with a 100-and-59 record.
The Brewers got their runs on a Sal Frelick double in the second inning that scored Gary Sanchez, a Jake Bauers single that scored Jackson Chourio in the eighth inning, an eighth inning single by Cooper Pratt that scored Bauers, a single by Joey Ortiz that plated Pratt and a ninth-inning home run by Chourio.
Combined with the LA Dodgers 4-2 loss to the San Diego Padres, the Brewers also clinched the No. 1 seed in the National League playoffs and will have home field advantage throughout.
Shane Drohan started for the Brewers and gave up a run in 2 2/3 innings. Chad Patrick, Aaron Ashby, JoJo Romero and Antonio Senzatela followed with Romero getting the win and Senzatela his fourth save of the season.
Bryce Harper drove-in the only run for Philly, which still holds a National League Wild Card spot.
The Brewers begin their final regular season home stand tonight by hosting the St. Louis Cardinals.
Robert Gasser who has a 5-5 record with a 4.01 ERA will go to the mound for Milwaukee.
St. Louis will counter with Michael McGreevy who is 7-9 with an ERA of 3.84.
