(UW ATHLETICS) – PISCATAWAY, NJ – Wisconsin women’s soccer (7-2-2) fell to Rutgers (3-4-3), 3-1, on Sunday afternoon at Yurcak Field.
How it happened
Rutgers struck first in the 10th minute when Ashley Baran found the back of the net off an assist from Reilly McGlinn.
Wisconsin responded less than six minutes later. Traub evened the match in the 16th minute, scoring unassisted with a right-footed strike into the top right corner.
The Badgers continued to create opportunities throughout the opening half. Hailey Baumann, Traub and Margaret Sisk each put shots on goal, but Rutgers goalkeeper Olivia Bodmer kept the match tied at 1-1 heading into halftime.
Wisconsin came out attacking in the second half, with Traub and KK Panella recording early attempts. Rutgers regained the lead in the 60th minute when Julia Joseph scored off an assist from Lilia Calvert to make it 2-1.
Drew Stover made three second-half saves as Rutgers continued to apply pressure. Wisconsin searched for an equalizer, including a Delaney Cox shot on goal in the 77th minute, but Bodmer made the save.
Calvert added an insurance goal for Rutgers in the 86th minute, giving the Scarlet Knights the 3-1 advantage and securing the final result.
Traub led Wisconsin with four shots and two shots on goal, while Panella and Erin Connolly each recorded three attempts. Stover finished with three saves.
