(WNFL) – After last week’s wild week between Bay Port and West De Pere and Menasha and Notre Dame, this week’s selection of games of the week is intriguing.
Let’s start with this one.
Pulaski (5-2) at De Pere (5-2): This is a game as much about playoff seeding as anything. Both teams are 3-2 in the Fox River Classic Conference-North.
Pulaski can pass the ball some as demonstrated by Bohdan Schmidt having completed 37-of-63 passes for 462 yards and 5 touchdowns but the Red Raiders much prefer to run the ball.
Anthony Ficarri has rushed for 745 yards and 17 touchdowns this season while Schmidt has added 623 yards. Trentyn Linz is the main receiver with 21 catches for 252 yards.
De Pere does both and pass the ball. Rylan Nowak has completed 60-0f-112 passes for 652 yards and touchdowns with Max Goebel his favorite target with 25 catches for 317 yards and 4 touchdowns.
When De Pere runs the ball, Liam Lieber is the likely ball carrier with 83 carries for 668 yards and 6 touchdowns.
Pulaski can score points as evidenced by 4 of their games where they scored 35 or more points.
De Pere can put up points as well having scored 28 or more points in 4 of their 5 victories.
Luxemburg-Casco (5-2) at Freedom (7-0): The Spartans at 4-1 are just a game behind the conference-leading Irish heading into this North Eastern Conference battle.
Luxemburg-Casco has shown signs of being a very good team, depending on whom they are playing with losses to Kewaunee and once-beaten Little Chute. In their last 3 games, the Spartans have outscored their opponents 133-12. That output comes after being beating by Little Chute 49-14.
Luxemburg-Casco likes to run the ball with Eli Derenne rushing for 983 yards and Ben Klass adding 474. All told, the Spartans have run for 1,751 yards on the season.
Derenne can also throw the ball with 66 completions in 125 attempts for 886 yards. Trenton Price is the leading receiver with 19 catches for 333 yards and Joey Jeanquart contributing 27 catches for 312 yards.
Freedom can run the ball and pass the ball with equal ability.
Axzil Eggert has rushed for 906 yards on 88 carries. He has also scored 18 touchdowns. George Van Schyndel backs up Eggert with 159 yards rushing.
Owen Henkel is proving to be a skilled quarterback with 1,494 yards passing with 103 completions in 161 attempts.
Charlie Micke has caught 35 passes for 539 yards and 8 touchdowns with Aidan Aerts hauling in 27 passes for 453 yards and 8 scores.
Peshtigo (3-4) at Oconto (4-3): The Bulldogs sit at 3-2 in the Packerland Conference as do the Blue Devils.
Oconto is 3-0 at home while Peshtigo is 1-2 on the road.
Both teams need a win for playoff seeding purposes.
Peshtigo is somewhat limited offensively with under 1,200 yards of total offense through 7 games.
Zac Schonfeld leads the ground game with 347 yards rushing on 73 carries. Cody Nesberg and Jordan Tirpik have added 178 and 124 yards, respectively.
Carter Drong is with leading receiver with 186 yards on 19 catches.
Oconto has rushed for 983 yards with Finn Brady doing the bulk of the work. He has 435 yards rushing on 85 carries. Next up is Tyson Brabant with 147 yards rushing followed by Dane Helnore with 144 yards rushing.
Brabant has completed 24-of-53 passes for 343 yards with 6 touchdowns and 2 interceptions. Helnore has completed 15-of-27 passes for 158 yards.
Oconto averages 22.3 points per game while allowing 13.6.
Peshtigo scored 16.1 points per game while allowing 27.4.
Fond du Lac (3-4) at Kimberly (3-4): Both teams have struggled this season. Kimberly sits at 3-2 in the Fox Valley Association while Fond du Lac is 2-3.
Carter Rosen leads Kimberly’s rushing game with 548 yards on 95 carries with Rylan Welch completing 53-0f-90 passes for 465 yards.
Lucas Csida is the leading receiver for Kimberly with 17 catches for 188 yards.
Fond du Lac is led by Eli Michalkiewicz with 978 yards rushing and 736 passing on 42 completions out of 88 attempts.
Guardian Harris is the leading receiver with 12 catches for 263 yards.
Kimberly which is past years has had a prolific offense struggles to score this season, averaging 17.9 points per game while allowing 17.1.
Fond du Lac has had no problems putting points on the board on occasion, averaging 30.1 points per game while allowing 17.1.
Fond du Lac’s wins have all been by 30 or more points. Their losses have been by 19, 1, 1 and 2.
Kimberly, meanwhile, has won its games by holding its opponents to a total of 30 points. In their losses, the Papermakers have allowed 27, 28, 14 and 21.
