(UW ATHLETICS) COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 1 Badgers fell 2-1 in a battle with the No. 2 Ohio State Buckeyes on night one of the series at the OSU Ice Rink.
Wisconsin’s singular goal by Cassie Hall kept the Badgers (4-1-0, 0-1-0 WCHA) afloat until the Buckeyes (5-0-0, 1-0-0 WCHA) sailed ahead with less than 3:30 remaining in the game.
Despite multiple power plays for both the Badgers and the Buckeyes, the first period was scoreless for both teams. Goaltender and alternate captain Ava McNaughton recorded 11 astonishing saves in the first twenty minutes of play.
The second period remained the same until Hall found the back of the net with 5:17 remaining. Hall’s goal was assisted by alternate captains Laney Potter and Maggie Scannell.
With 12:59 remaining in the third, the Buckeyes tied things up during a Badger penalty.
In the final minutes of the game, Ohio State took the lead on the power play, making it 2-1.
Notes of the Game
- Goaltender Ava McNaughton stopped a season-high 38 shots against the Buckeyes.
- Despite the setback, the Badgers lead the all-time series over the Buckeyes 86-31-11.
