(GREEN BAY ATHLETICS) GREEN BAY – Green Bay got back into the win column on Senior Day with a 1-0 shutout victory over IU Indy on Saturday at Aldo Santaga Stadium. The victory boosted Green Bay’s record to 9-1-3 overall and 4-1-1 in Horizon League action, good for 13 points in the league.
“I am so happy we were able to gut out a positive result on senior day,” said head coach Matt Kagan. “I want to give a special shout-out to a special senior group who have given everything to this program. I thought we fought for 90 minutes, even though the game had its ebbs and flows. We scored a timely goal, and our goalkeeper made two very good saves to preserve the victory.”
HOW IT HAPPENED
Green Bay would score what would eventually be the only goal of the game early in the tenth minute. Aixa Helbringer-Escobar’s corner kick slanted into the box, where senior Rebecca Stoeckmann connected with a header over the rest of the pack. Stoeckmann’s goal was her second of the season.
Despite being outshot 8-5 in the first half, IU Indy flipped the shot chart in the second half, outshooting Green Bay 8-4 in the second. It was a season-best performance from goalkeeper Anna Scott, who denied the Jaguars’ scoring chances, saving all seven shots on goal she faced throughout the game. Her seven saves are a season-high. IU Indy’s best opportunity came in the 88th minute, when an Addison Stover shot rattled off the crossbar just inches too tall for a game-tying goal.
GAME NOTES
- IU Indy outshot Green Bay 13-12.
