GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A park on Green Bay’s east side marked a fresh start with a ribbon-cutting for a new playground at Badger Park, a project officials hope will help draw more people to the outdoor space.
The ribbon-cutting “looked more a ground-breaking” as Mayor Genrich joined other leaders in spreading woodchips around the new play area. Park officials used a community development grant to replace the park’s old playground equipment.
To make the park easier to reach, officials also purchased a parking lot on Shawano Avenue.
“We want to active this park more than we have in the past,” said Green Bay Parks Forestry Department Director Dan Ditscheit. “We anticipate a lot more use especially when we open up the view from Shawano Avenue and really promote this as more of a community park instead of a local neighborhood park.”
Park officials said the next steps include clearing trees to improve access to the parking lot, making fixes to the soccer field and adding a bike facility.
