SHAWANO, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – A preliminary hearing was postponed Tuesday for Kaitlyn Hintz, associate principal at Bonduel middle and high school, who allegedly had repeated sexual contact with a female student.
Hintz, 32, is charged with repeated sexual assault of child, second-degree sexual assault, and child enticement.
A defense request to postpone the preliminary hearing was granted, court records show. It is now scheduled for Feb. 2.
The complaint details several specific encounters and locations dating back to October 2024. Those included a field near the victim’s house, and a park-and-ride lot. The victim was 15 years old when the encounters started.
The police interviewed the victim, who admitted to the contact, which started when she was a sophomore.
Victim 1 started by indicating she enjoyed the attention and everything between them was consensual. She stated that although she understands what they did was not okay, Victim 1 indicated they do not believe she deserves punishment,” the complaint states.
Police interviewed Hintz, who said her interactions with the victim went too far but were not sexual in nature.
In hindsight, Hintz admitted she recognize that she should have asked for administrative guidance and professional help to navigate these boundaries, and she acknowledged that meeting up, exchanging personal cell phone numbers, and communicating outside of official school channels were wrong,” the complaint states. “…she maintained that all off-campus meetings and contacts were solely for conversation, mental health support, and safety checks, and were strictly non-sexual. When questioned on the statements made by Victim 1, Hintz explicitly denied engaging in any romantic or sexual relationship or sexual contact with Victim 1 in her residence, in parking lots, or at any other location, and Hintz denied that Victim 1 had ever been inside her residence.
Police examined the victim’s cell phone and found messages between them describing some of their encounters.
Police then did another interview with Hintz, confronting her with those details.
(The officer) asked Kaitlyn directly: “Have you had sexual activity with Victim 1 [during the interview, I identified Victim 1 by name not included in this report]?” Hintz failed to deny the conduct, answering: “This is the stuff, though, and I don’t know what I’m supposed to say right now. I don’t know what I’m supposed to do right now. “She further stated: “I don’t know if I’m supposed to say yes because that’s what an attorney would tell me to do. I don’t know if I’m supposed to stick to my belief. “Furthermore, Hintz made no factual response of the authenticity of the text logs or the question of if she had engaged in sexual acts with Victim 1,” the complaint states.
The school district placed Hintz on administrative leave.
The school district and investigators have both declined to release the original complaint/report from Speak Up, Speak Out as it contains information that could reveal the alleged victim’s identity.
“The District received that complaint/report at 10:26 p.m. on Thursday, October 15th,” the district said about the open records request. “The MS/HS Principal reviewed the report at 4:50 a.m. on Friday, October 16th. The District Administrator reviewed the report at roughly 6:00 a.m. on Friday, October 16th. The District Administrator called Ms. Hintz at 6:30 a.m. on Friday, October 16th to relay she should not come in to work. The District Administrator was in contact with law enforcement at roughly 7:00 a.m. on Friday, October 16th.”
