BROWN COUNTY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — As the new Resch EXPO nears completion, many are looking forward to what the new site can offer.
That includes area tourism leaders, who conducted a survey to find out what else might be possible.
“We’re not proposing anything be built at this very moment. We just wanted to be able to answer those questions, that we get asked. If you could, but what would you put in the community, and what would it cost,” asked Brad Toll, Greater Green Bay Convention & Visitors Bureau President and CEO.
At a virtual meeting Tuesday, Toll and other local tourism leaders are exploring building a new youth sports complex. Scenarios include indoor courts, and multi-purpose turf. The survey reveals the Green Bay Packers draw a lot of people to Titletown, but the weather can be a challenge. The new Resch EXPO is viewed as a plus.
“If you were doing a national volleyball, or basketball tournament in your new facility, it can overflow to an expo center. Dance, cheer. Same thing. Any sort of indoor thing, you can double up,” said Rob Hunden, Hunden Strategic Partners.
Hunden Strategic Partners conducted the survey. Mike Christensen says the facility is needed. He says, for example, the Cornerstone Community Center in Ashwaubenon attracts competitors locally, and from across the Midwest.
“Those tournaments on the weekend are in demand, and those facilities can draw a significant amount of visitation and spending into an area,” said Mike Christensen, Hunden Strategic Partners.
Christensen says over a 30 year period, a youth sports complex could generate $1.9 billion in new net spending.
He says the high end project scenarios may range anywhere from $60-100 million.
The report is scheduled to be available to the public Wednesday morning.
