GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – As more people return to life before the pandemic, the hospitality industry is working hard to recruit employees. Green Bay’s Convention and Visitors Bureau hosted a job fair Wednesday for the employers in the industry.
Gina Schomaker is a veteran worker when it comes to the hospitality industry.
“I love anything to do with food, that’s my passion. Especially desserts. I have done pastries at a few restaurants in Green Bay.”
Like many, the pandemic affected her career and she’s eager to get back to working.
“I’m just excited to be here and hopefully I can find my next employer.”
Green Bay’s hospitality industry is looking for employees, like Schomaker.
“We are still going through a recovery process and when Covid hit, many of the businesses either closed for a little while or downsized their staffs so this is a way for us to move up and get more employees,” said Brenda Krainik, the marketing director for Greater Green Bay Convention and Visitors Bureau.
With the NFL announcing that fans are going to be able to attend training camp, the hospitality industry is working even harder to fill the open positions they have. However, the Packers have not released details for training camp 2021.
“Well things like that Packers training camp brings in thousands and thousands of people over the month, and they are enjoying beyond Packers, whether it’s attractions, restaurants, and staying in our hotels,” said Krainik.
The Kress Inn is just one of the hotels in the area actively recruiting. It needs house keepers, and people to man the front desk.
“We have busy weekends, not just Packers games, but throughout the summer,” said Patrick Olejniczak, the director of sales and hotel services for Kress Inn.
“We want to make sure we have enough staff cleaning the guest rooms and taking care of our guests we have for the summer.”
It doesn’t stop there. Delaware North, which manages food services in Lambeau and some restaurants around the stadium, needs ideally 1,800 employees on game days. Half of those people just to man concessions.
“There have been a few games where some of my staff have had to work a concession stand. So HR people, typical office people working a concession stand they do a great job but certainly not used to where they’re being. We certainly would rather have staff and employees we can give a wage too,” said Laura Kox, an HR manager for Delaware North.
Job Fairs for many industries are happening all across Northeast Wisconsin.
