WRIGHTSTOWN, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) โ An Appleton man was arrested after an overnight police chase and crash in Wrightstown.
Police say just before 3:30 a.m., they were called to Bengal Lane for a report of a vehicle driving down the road slowly without its headlights on. There were also reports of squealing tires.
An officer arriving in the area saw a vehicle on Plum Road that was partially in the ditch. When the officer turned on his emergency lights, the vehicle pulled out of the ditch and drove directly at the officer, barely missing the squad car.
The officer turned around and followed the vehicle down Plum Road, then the chase turned west onto High Street. The vehicle was speeding, crossed the median, drove into the opposite lane of traffic and onto the sidewalks. The vehicle went into the roundabout at Turner Street โ in the wrong direction โ made a complete circle and then went into a ravine, crashing into a tree.
After a brief search, officers found and arrested the 31-year-old driver. Police are recommending charges of recklessly endangering safety, eluding an officer and impaired driving.
The investigation continues.
