APPLETON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Another competency exam has been ordered for 19-year-old Alexander Kraus, who was recently convicted of killing his grandparents.
Kraus had pleaded guilty to two counts of first-degree intentional homicide for shooting Dennis and Letha Kraus on April 14, 2019, at their Grand Chute home.
A jury determined while Kraus suffered from a mental disease or defect, he could still had the capacity to appreciate his actions were wrong.
He faces two automatic life sentences.
A week after the jury verdict, defense attorney Gregory Petit petitioned the court for another competency review, saying Kraus’ mental condition had deteriorated.
