SEYMOUR, WI (WTAQ) — Outagamie County Sheriff’s Deputies got an extremely unusual call on Tuesday.
Around 12:30 pm, dispatchers received a call from a garbage truck driver on a rural road near Seymour that two Zebras were on the road.
“I’m right outside of Seymour, and there are a couple of zebras in the road,” the caller told dispatch. “And if you think I’m kidding, I’m not.”
Outagamie County Sheriff’s Sergeant Nathan Borman says the zebras had managed to escape from their enclosure.
“We got some pretty funny calls from people out and about,” Borman told WTAQ. “The owners were quickly found and were able to corral the animals back home.”
The sheriff’s department contacted the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources about the incident.
Wisconsin is one of four states in the nation that has no laws regulating the ownership of exotic pets.
Video of the loose zebras was posted to Facebook by David Haupt, the garbage truck driver who made the 911 call.
Fox 11 reports that the zebras, named Mack and Chloe, are are recent addition to the farm they reside on. Their owner intends to breed and sell zebras.
