GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) – The Green Bay Packers are making a change at Special Teams Coordinator. The team is reportedly not bringing back Maurice Drayton after just one season in charge of the unit.
The move comes in the wake of yet another season where the Packers’ special teams unit was one of the worst in the NFL. Drayton’s status has been the subject of speculation since the Packers’ playoff loss to the San Francisco 49ers last month. The Packers had a field goal blocked, and a punt blocked and returned for a touchdown, in the 13-10 loss. That’s the first time that kind of sequence has happened in a playoff game in over 30 years.
Drayton was only on the job for one season; he was promoted after Shawn Mennenga was fired following the 2020 season.
