GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) — The best time to fill up your tank was a week ago.
The second best time might be now.
Gas prices are only continuing to increase in Wisconsin, and are rapidly approaching an all time high.
“The all time high in Wisconsin is $4.12 a gallon back in 2011, and that’s likely to be breached here in the next week,” said Patrick DeHaan, Petroleum Analyst at GasBuddy. “I think prices will continue to inch up over the next one or two weeks.”
The statewide average in Wisconsin stands at $3.98 a gallon as of Tuesday afternoon and $4.21 a gallon on average nationwide, the highest recorded.
“Given the strong recovering in the economy and that the nation has broadly reopened,” explained DeHaan. “I’m concerned that Americans will not curb consumption and that prices will find higher water.
The prices are spiking as the oil markets continue to reel from the Russian invasion of Ukraine and the subsequent sanctions on Russian petroleum. Gas prices nationwide may reach up to $4.50.
