TOWN OF GIBRALTAR, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — An effort to raise money for a new playground at Peninsula State Park needs one more push to get to the finish line.
Organizers say they have raised 90% of their goal since launching the fundraiser in November. Friends of Peninsula State Park says it needs to meet its goal in order for the playground to be installed this summer.
The group’s original goal was $120,000.
The previous playground at Nicolet Beach closed in 2020 because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Friends of Peninsula State Park said at that time, it was decided to take the entire playground down because equipment was rotting and it was unsafe.
Plans call for the new playground to be handicap-accessible, and feature 18 different play structures, including a wheelchair-friendly merry-go-round.
