GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A photo of a dog tied to a fire hydrant in Green Bay is creating lots of discussion.
The Wisconsin Humane Society posted the photo on Facebook just after 8 a.m. Thursday, and by 11 a.m., it had more than 450 comments and was shared more than 600 times.
The humane society says the dog was left with a backpack full of supplies and was tied to the hydrant in such a way that it would be safe from traffic.
The post goes on to say the previous owner was struggling with their own medical complications and was no longer able to take care of the dog.
“While we’ll never let fees be a barrier and we welcome anonymous surrenders, we see that you did what you thought was best for your beloved pup and we are grateful for your compassion,” the post reads.
The humane society says it is taking care of the dog during a mandatory stray hold, and that it is on track to be adopted.
