FOND DU LAC, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Fond du Lac authorities say a social media threat made against high school students was found to be non-credible
According to police, the threat was made on Snapchat Monday, stating, “Apperantly [sic] there are threats of an 11th and 12th grader having a gun on [sic] fondy just didn’t do anything with it so pretty much the school might get shot up tomorrow. So if you, Guys have a choice to not go then don’t.”
As a result, classes were canceled Tuesday to investigate.
Police were able to trace the post back to three Fond du Lac High School students who were identified and interviewed along with a male subject who was attributed to making the comment in question.
Investigators learned that back on May 26, a student alleged that while walking through a hallway, she heard a male subject state he had a gun. She advised she did not see any weapon nor hear any specific threats to harm anyone. This student did not report this comment to any staff or law enforcement. It was brought to the attention of police on Monday afternoon as the unsubstantiated comment was shared through other social media platforms.
Extra officers will be on hand today (Wednesday) at the high school as students head back to class.
The Fond du Lac Police Department encourages students and families to immediately report any suspicious activity or a potential act of violence rather than spreading the information to others.
