ALLOUEZ, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Some areas in Northeast Wisconsin are still looking for crossing guards to work during this school year.
In Allouez, they’re hiring substitutes for when some guards can’t work.
Bud Court has been an Allouez crossing guard for six years.
“I want to protect the kids,” he said. “I have a passion for kids.”
The retiree says doing so is a community duty, and getting to know the kids he sees every day makes it worth it.
“For one thing, it gets me up in the morning. You know, you have to be here, at most sites, 7 o’clock or a little after,” Court went on, “and then it’s just 45 minutes, an hour in the afternoon.”
Allouez Director of Planning and Community Development Trevor Fuller says they could use a little help.
“We have 11 full time guards and four substitutes currently,” said Fuller.
He’s looking for two more substitute crossing guards to join the team.
